Schoolwide Rules and Procedures: At Clinton School we have the following rules: Be Safe. Be Respectful. Be Responsible. We are teaching students procedures around the building. This week we are focusing on arrival and dismissal procedures. Students that are caught using these procedures may receive an “I Got Caught” sticker. If your child wears one home, ask them how they earned it.
Be Safe |
ARRIVAL -- Use cross walk and sidewalks. --Walk bikes on the school block. --Wait in designated area. --Arrive no earlier than 7:45 a.m. DISMISSAL --No re-entry. --All students leave the building with a teacher. --Use stairs properly, one step at a time. |
Be Respectful |
--Keep hands and feet to self. --Use hallway procedure when entering and leaving the building. --At dismissal wait your turn to exit the door and walk to the basketball court with your teacher. |
Be Responsible |
--Come at 7:45 a.m. for breakfast and 8:05 a.m. if not eating breakfast. --Use line procedure and line up in assigned area. --Use a backpack. --Be on time. --Check in when tardy. |
Stranger Danger: There have been several incidents in our neighborhood of men coming up to students on the weekend and asking them to help them find something. In all cases, the students knew to say no and run. Please continue to remind your child that they should not go with strangers when approached. We want to keep our kids safe.
Don’t ARRIVE until 7:45 a.m. Adults will be out to supervise at 7:45 a.m. for our students safety. Please do not bring your children until that time. If you need before school care, please contact Kristi Chambers at the Clinton Community Learning Center at 437-8835 or 770-8606.
DISMISSAL PROCEDURES: School is dismissed at 2:53 p.m. Please be on time to pick your child up from school so that they will be safe. All children must go directly home or to their planned after school care. Students will not play on equipment before or after school. Parents arrange to pick up your children at the same place each day. Parents must come into the building and sign to pick up students after 3:05 p.m. Police may be called if the student has not been picked up by 3:25 p.m. Please talk about your after school family dismissal plan with your child. Do NOT make changes frequently, which will confuse children.
LPS School Closings Due to Weather:
Lincoln Public Schools is always looking for more and better ways to communicate to our parents and students. We have decided to call each LPS household when school is closed due to bad weather. Our new mass communication system will allow us to notify each family individually.
If school is closed, the system will call our 20,000 households with this information. It will take up to 45 minutes to complete the entire
list from A-Z. Since the calls are made in alphabetical order, names at the beginning of the alphabet will receive a call before those at the
end of the alphabet. If the school closing decision can be made the night before, we will initiate notification calls by 10 p.m. However, often the school closing decision can’t be made until early morning because the weather is difficult to predict. In those cases, phone calls to homes will begin at 5:15 a.m.
We know this is early, but many families and students must leave home very early each morning to arrive at school and work on time. Also, the first LPS school buses leave at 5:30 a.m. to start picking up students. Notification will only help families if they are alerted in a timely
manner. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by early phone calls.
As in the past, we will continue to notify all media outlets of any school closings. Bad weather can affect various forms of technology. So with radio, television, and now, the mass communication system, we have many avenues to ensure our families are notified of school closings.
If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. We are glad you are part of our school and if I can help in any way, let me know.
Attendance: A Key To Your Child’s Success
Here’s how you can improve your child’s attendance:
--Talk with your child about the importance of attending school regularly.
--Avoid scheduling family trips or doctor appointments during school hours.
--Make sure your child stays healthy by eating nutritious food and getting enough sleep and exercise.
--Don’t accept excuses for why your child “must” miss or be late for school.
--Discuss with your child their daily successes at school.
--Show your child why education is important. Give specific examples of how education helps people succeed.
--Lead by example. If children see parents taking off work for no real reason, they may expect to be able to do the same thing.
Research shows that attendance is the single most important factor in school success.
Attendance: Attendance Goal for 2007-08: Let’s set our goal to have a 95% average daily attendance rate for the 2007-08 school year. Students that are in school learn!!
