Summer Learning Opportunity

Professional Learning Community Work:

Have you ever wondered what we are doing on Professional Learning Community early release days? I will focus on a different grade level team each week and the work they are doing during this important time.

This week I will focus on the Fifth Grade Professional Learning Community. This community of learners has created essential learning outcomes for reading and math. They have also created the following goals for their teaching and student learning. They have established the following reading goals: At least 50% of Clinton 5th graders will meet or exceed grade level benchmarks as defined by the LPS report card rubrics in the area of reading fluency. 81% of Clinton 5th graders will score 80% or better on vocabulary assessments. The Fifth Grade Professional Learning Community has set the following goals for math: At least 75% of Clinton 5th graders will meet or exceed the level of proficiency on the district multiplication tests. By the end of the year, at least 50% of Clinton 5th graders will meet or exceed the level of proficiency on the district division timed tests. As of March 18th, 65% of 5th graders have passed the multiplication test. 53% of 5th graders have passed the division tests. They have exceeded their math goals! Professional Learning Community work pays off. The team created an action plan to support those students that are currently not meeting the reading and math standards.
