Second Step Bullying Prevention Lessons

October 7, 2019

Dear Clinton Families,

We are currently in the middle of our Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit in all K-5 classrooms. All students will know that bullying is defined as mean and on purpose, happening over and over, unfair and one-sided.

During our Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit all students learn specific skills to help stop bullying. Students learn how to:

  • Recognize when bullying is happening by the definition
  • Report bullying to a caring adult
  • Refuse to let bullying happen in a respectful and kind manner
  • Be a positive bystander who helps stop bullying

The following poster is used during the lessons with all students. Feel free to discuss this with your child!

At school we use strategies that support a positive school and classroom climate and we need your help, too! Get involved in making our school a safe and respectful place by talking with your child about the definition of bullying. Encourage them to report bullying to a caring adult in the school. Give your child the clear message that it is never okay to bully others.

If you have any questions about the Bullying Prevention Unit or the Second Step program, please contact me or visit

Thank you for helping us make our school a safe, respectful place where everyone can learn.
